A former Aberdeen care home has been sold in a £2 million deal and will be converted in to luxury homes.
Tweed Homes (Aberdeen) Ltd has acquired the Ashley Lodge site in Great Western Road and has planning consent to develop 30 units, with nine in the original house and 21 new builds on the 1.19 acre site.
The former residents of Ashley Lodge, which was owned and operated by the Church of Scotland, have moved to a new state of the art care home built by the Church at Rubislaw Park and officially opened last year.
FG Burnett acted for the Church in connection with the sale of Ashley Lodge. Managing director, Angus MacCuish, said: "We are delighted to have facilitated the successful disposal of this prominent site. The fact there were competing interests demonstrates the underlying strength of the economy in Aberdeen and the North East and specifically confidence in the residential sector."
The development will consist of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, town houses and penthouses and includes underground parking facilities and a “secret garden” area.
Building work on Phase 1 of the project, the conversion of the former mansion house building, will begin in a few weeks and is expected to be completed in eight months.
Dave Flin, managing director of Tweed Homes (Aberdeen) Ltd, said: “This is a stunning site in the west end of Aberdeen which gives us the opportunity to create something really different.
“The main building lends itself to a sympathetic restoration and when the site came on market we felt it was too good an opportunity to miss. Ashley Lodge Gardens will combine contemporary design with classic architecture and we are confident the project will be a welcome addition to one of Aberdeen’s most popular residential areas.”
