A new sports pitch in Whittingehame Drive, Haddington opened at the weekend.
It is the first element of East Lothian Council's capital plan Legacy Project linked to the sporting events of London 2012 and Glasgow 2014.
The new IRB / FIFA 2* Pitch developed in Haddington is now in operation and being used by both Haddington Athletic Community Football Club and Haddington Rugby Football Club, along with a range of other users.
The new 3G pitch in Haddington is actually the first IRB pitch to be delivered in Scotland outwith the professional rugby environments of Murrayfield and Scotstoun. This new facility is truly a community facility for the benefit of community clubs and community sport.
East Lothian Provost, Sheena Richardson who was present at the local clubs' opening event on Sunday 20 November 2011 said: "I am delighted to see this wonderful facility delivered as part of East Lothian Council's Legacy Project and I am particularly pleased for the sporting community here in Haddington. I know this facility will play an important role to the many participants and volunteers involved here.''
Eamon John, Healthy Living Service Manager at East Lothian Council explained: "This is the first of the legacy projects delivered with two other 3G pitches nearing completion in the towns of Tranent and Musselburgh. Looking forward the new athletics facility at Meadowmill is nearing completion and includes 10 refurbished outdoor changing rooms , increased strength and conditioning area, new coach education meetings rooms and physiotherapy space. Meadowmill as a facility plays a key role in the development of sporting pathways here in East Lothian."
