Affordable housing specialist Lovell has been working with Dunedin Canmore Group to improve the gardens at Ferry House and build a place of relaxation for its residents.
Ferry House, a group home for older men with mental health issues in the Leith area of Edinburgh, is run by Health in Mind, a charity that aims to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland.
Lovell recently pledged to undertake 10 community initiatives throughout the next 12 months as the company celebrates its 10th year in Scotland, focussing on specific local needs, which may otherwise lack the necessary support.
Alan Taylor, regional director at Lovell says: “We are a company very much committed to working with communities to improve their social and economic outlook.
“When Dunedin Canmore Group approached us about the work they were doing at Ferry House we were more than happy to be involved. This is a great project that will have a significant impact on the local residents, and we are looking forward to working on similar community initiatives throughout the year.”
Bob Stewart, Interim Director of Hostel Services at Dunedin Canmore Group, says: “In place of our annual staff conference, staff at Dunedin Canmore gave their time to help a community project with the aim of making a difference, no matter how small. The team at Lovell has been invaluable at bringing this project to fruition. Without the kind donation of materials we would not have been able to transform the outdoor area.
“The garden now allows the gentlemen to sit or take a short stroll in a safe environment. Some residents are excited at the prospect of growing vegetables in the raised planters in the spring, whilst others are looking forward to developing a rock garden and planting flowers.”
