Work at the Westport junction in Forfar is being co-ordinated by Angus Council to allow a utilities company to undertake essential maintenance while the road is closed.
The council’s contractors Land & Building Services Ltd and Siemens, are replacing the existing traffic signals and associated cable ducting as well as carriageway and footway works on all four approaches to Westport junction.
While this project is ongoing, the council will allow Scottish Gas to undertake works at the location, minimising any future disruption to the public.
The current road closure on West High Street will be extended to cover part of the junction area, and the council’s contractor and Scottish Gas will undertake pipe and duct work at the junction.
During this work, the main traffic signals will be switched off and the junction will be controlled by temporary traffic lights.
Once West High Street has reopened, the contractors will then move to Glamis Road, with Scottish Gas again undertaking work at the same time.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during this time, with town centre traffic being diverted from Glamis Road via Westfield Loan.
During this time access to all properties on Glamis Road, including the gates at Langlands Primary School will be maintained.
Final road resurfacing works at Craig o’ Loch Road and Dundee Loan will then follow.
It is anticipated that all the works will be complete and the new traffic signals commissioned by mid December.
