Construction work on Inverclyde's new £1.4 million Children's Unit is now underway.
The new development will replace Redholm Children's Home in Port Glasgow and will provide a home for up to six children.
It is the centerpiece of the re-provisioning of children's residential services in order to provide quality accommodation to children looked after by Inverclyde Council.
The home has six bedrooms, a family bathroom, a sitting room, family room, kitchen, dining room, sunroom, a staff base and a study room.
Six off-street parking spaces are also being provided for staff and visitors to the front of the property, which will be set within landscaped grounds with a timber decking area and private garden to the rear.
Health and Social Care Convener, Councillor Joe McIlwee, said: "We already provide a high quality Children's Residential Service in Inverclyde and the new centre will enhance the care that we currently provide. Like any parent the Council wants to do what is best for the children and young people we look after and the new centre will give them a comfortable, modern and safe place to live."
Health and Social Care Vice Convener, Councillor Gerry Dorrian, said: "The children that will live here will be ordinary children who attend local schools who have come to be looked after by the Council usually because of family circumstances. It is vital they are given as near-normal a home life as possible to give them the best possible start in life."
The Kylemore Terrace site in Greenock was selected because it is important for the new unit to integrate and become part of an established community.
Extensive consultation with local people was carried out.
