More than a hundred Winget residents in Carntyne got a sneak preview of the finished homes – and were delighted with what they saw.
Tenants and homeowners from the area were joined by Paul Martin MSP and Councillors Elaine McDougall, Jennifer Dunn and Frank Docherty at an open day, which showed off how the completed houses will look.
The work, which is being carried out in phases by City Building LLP, has been completed on 11 blocks – with 24 tenants already back home enjoying life in their newly-refurbished homes.
More tenants will be moving back in week by week as work progresses and blocks are completed.
Paul Martin MSP said: "The finished Winget homes look really smart and I’m sure residents will feel the benefit of the improvement work.
"A lot of hard work has gone into getting to this stage and it’s a tribute to GHA, and City Building, that the refurbished homes look so good."
As well as the structural improvement work, the 600 GHA Winget homes will receive new kitchens, bathrooms, central heating and re-wiring and internal refurbishment work.
Residents at the open day were able to see both an upper flat and lower flat, each with the different styles of bathroom and kitchen and the choice of tiles and worktops available to tenants.
GHA’s dedicated Winget liaison officers were also on hand to answer any questions.
Winget tenant Elsie Beacom, who lives in Saughton Street, said: "I like the way everything has been spaced out. It looks bigger somehow. They’ve done a marvellous job. The kitchen especially looks lovely."
Gordon Sloan, GHA Chair and a Winget resident himself, said: "The open day was a really good opportunity for tenants and homeowners to see for themselves how the refurbished Winget homes will look.
"There’s a real sense of anticipation in the area as residents see the work progressing and look forward to moving back into their refurbished homes.
"It was also another chance for residents to meet with our dedicated liaison officers and ask any questions they may have."
The programme of work on the Wingets, which began in 2010, should take around five and a half years to complete and represents an investment of £38million from GHA.
GHA has worked closely with the tenants decanted while the work is carried out to make sure they had everything they needed during this time.
