New Home For Port Seton Sculpture

The Port Seton Resource Centre is the lucky recipient of a piece of sculpture which was much admired in the town before being damaged by a car.

Bruce Smith, Senior Day Service Officer at the Resource Centre, explained: “The Port Seton In Bloom Group commissioned Gardner Molloy, a local stonemason, to produce a piece of sculpture to sit at the entrance to the town on the coast road. The sculpture of fishermen hauling a full net of fish into their boat soon became a favourite with residents and visitors alike but sadly the stone sculpture was badly damaged following a car accident last summer.”

As the original sculpture was too damaged to remain in place, the In Bloom Group commissioned a replacement sculpture from Gardner for the site. Coincidentally a member of staff at Port Seton Resource Centre asked Gardner about the fate of the damaged piece. Between them they decided it could be adapted and would make a very nice addition to the newly restored Resource Centre Garden, located on the south facing side of the Community Centre.

The adapted sculpture was delivered and erected in the garden on the same day as a new sculpture was placed on the coast road. It’s already generating interest and favourable comments from staff and visitors.

Bruce added: “The Resource Centre would like to thank The In Bloom Group and Gardner for recycling this piece of work. It could so easily have been written off but is now able to start a new life in a very appreciative community setting.”
