Members of the public are being invited to view proposals for a new development of social housing on the site of the former Bell Baxter High School at West Port, Cupar.
Following public interest at a consultation event in June, a further drop-in event will take place at St Columba’s Primary School on Wednesday 24 August between 3pm and 7pm.
The proposed new housing is a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom council homes for rent, including some amenity housing and 2 bedroom flats for mid market rent by a subsidiary of Kingdom Housing Association. There are also proposals to include a small Business Centre.
This project proposes to meet housing needs in an area where there is a shortage of affordable housing as well as turn a derelict site into an attractive development that is sympathetic to its surroundings, reinstating the façade along West Port.
The planning application for this development was submitted in May and it is hoped that work on site could begin later this year if approved at Committee in September. This would allow tenants to move in around October next year.
Funding bids of £675,000 to assist with the finances of the development were submitted to the Scottish Government in May and the outcome of these bids is expected by mid September.
Plans have already been revised in response to points raised by members of the public at the previous events including the proposal to widen Hill Street along part of it’s length, to adjust access to West Port from Hill Street and provide a drop-off/pick-up point at Bathgate Court on North Union Street.
Derek Muir, Head of Fife Council’s Housing & Neighbourhood Services said: “Those attending the event will be able to view the proposals for the new development. Representatives from the Design Team, Kingdom Housing Association and Fife Council will be there to discuss the plans and answer any questions people may have about the proposal.
Anyone who isn't able to make it along to this event can contact Claire Mackinlay, Housing Development Officer for more information on the project or view the application online at www.fifedirect.org.uk.”
