Riverside Inverclyde (ri) in partnership with Inverclyde Council has begun the process of implementing substantial public realm improvements on the Gourock waterfront.
ri has submitted a Planning Application Notice (PAN), which will kick off a 12 week public consultation period on ambitious plans to deliver improved public realm space on the Gourock pier head and a new road link between the pier head and the Kempock Street car park.
The £2.4M investment will be delivered by Riverside Inverclyde, subject to agreement with landowners Inverclyde Council, Network Rail and Cal Mac.
ri Chief Executive Bill Nicol commented: "So far ri has focussed on seven key geographies in Port Glasgow and Greenock, however we have recently been working with our funding partners to agree a development and funding strategy to improve the Gourock waterfront as part of a more holistic approach to the regeneration of the Inverclyde waterfront. I am delighted that one of our key partners, Inverclyde Council, has backed our development proposals and we now hope to gain the same support from the local residents and the Gourock business community through our consultation programme."
Riverside Inverclyde are hosting a public exhibition on the 16th of August between 4 and 8 pm in the Gamble Halls in Gourock where interested members of the local community will be able to view the proposals for themselves and make comments. In addition there will be an opportunity to pose questions to Riverside Inverclyde and the project design team.
Inverclyde Council's Regeneration Convener Councillor Ronnie Ahlfeld said: ''This has been a long time coming and marks the beginning of our efforts to transform Gourock town centre and specifically the waterfront which has so much potential for tourism and leisure. At long last these realistic proposals are achievable and the funding is committed. We are determined that local people are involved at every step of the process so that our investment of over £2 million will provide a town centre we can all be proud of."
