The National Specialist Contractors’ Council (NSCC) will lead on a number of objectives identified within the Government’s Low Carbon Construction Action Plan, which will be crucial to the delivery of the Green Deal and the drive towards a low carbon economy in the UK.
The Low Carbon Construction Action Plan, which forms the Government’s response to the final Low Carbon Construction Innovation and Growth Team report published in November 2010, demonstrates a clear commitment to the transition to a low carbon economy and will give the construction industry the confidence to invest in more sustainable working. NSCC and its member organisations are ideally placed to work with the Government to deliver the low carbon solutions necessary to improve the thermal performance of the UK building stock. As well as providing the Government with crucial market information, NSCC will develop common standardised solutions for consumers looking to upgrade their homes and it will raise awareness of the opportunities provided by the Green Deal from 2012.
The joint Government and industry Action Plan is focused on promoting the benefits of low carbon construction and providing the fiscal and other measures required for the market to flourish and realise the UK’s carbon reduction targets.
NSCC Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE welcomed the Government’s response to the IGT report: “It is encouraging to see that a clear plan of action has been established to ensure that the construction industry is prepared for the demands of a low carbon economy.
"It is now time for the industry to adopt a more integrated approach to deliver efficient solutions that meet the client’s expectations in terms of quality, cost and performance. NSCC represents the businesses that will undertake the work and we are delighted to be given a key role to play in improving the energy efficiency of the UK’s homes and businesses.”
