Work is well underway on the new £3.5 million community facility at Bleachingfield, Dunbar.

The new building was given the go-ahead because a number of key services in the town of Dunbar were being delivered from buildings that were in poor repair or were no longer fit for purpose.

After extensive community consultation, plans for the new building were finalised, to bring together Council and community services in a new purpose-built facility.


Due to be completed in March 2012, it will include a library with open learning facilities, community meeting and activity spaces, Council housing and community services offices, after-school and playgroup facility, youth provision and community cafe, two-court badminton hall with changing facilities, Scout group accommodation and public toilets with a changing facility.

Councillor Ruth Currie, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, said: "I am really pleased that work is now taking place on what will be a truly valued facility for Dunbar. It will be a focal point for the town – bringing together Council services and facilities that the community will make really good use of."

The new building is on the site of the old Countess centre on the Bleachingfield – close to the town centre. It will include parking spaces and outdoor children's play areas.
