Sections Of Coastal Path Reopened

Parts of the clifftop coastal path at Seaton Cliffs, north of Arbroath not directly affected by landslips earlier this year have been re-opened.

The decision follows a meeting between Angus Council staff and the landowner, the Scottish Wildlife Trust to decide which sections of the path could be safely re-opened.

Barriers have now been removed from Whiting Ness and relocated nearer to the landslide at Seaman’s Grave. This enables out and back access to half a mile of the clifftop path from Victoria Park.


The section of path in the vicinity of Maiden Castle and The Deil’s Heid has also been reopened, and can be accessed from the Auchmithie Road via Seaton Den and Carlingheugh Bay.

The continuation of the coastal path to Auchmithie remains open, and can also be accessed via Seaton Den.

Two sections of the coastal path remain closed for public safety due to unstable ground and potential for further landslides at three separate locations. The council is undertaking further investigation of the stability of the cliffs and looking at the feasibility of reopening the path. In the meantime the public are asked to be patient and heed all warning signs and barriers.
