St Mary's Primary School has been officially opened with much excitement from the pupils, staff and parents alike.
The £7.9million new-build school in Cadzow Street in Hamilton is the latest to be officially opened as part of the council's groundbreaking £812m Primary Schools Modernisation Programme.
Head Teacher Kathleen Stewart said: "We are absolutely delighted with our new school and you could feel the excitement in the air on the first morning as pupils waited for their first glimpse inside. I was also pleased to see so many parents here to share in what was a really lovely moment.
"The building is beautiful and the modern surroundings will undoubtedly promote excellent teaching and learning.
"I'd like to thank all involved in the design and build of our new school as I feel that the partnership approach taken has worked well. We can't wait to get settled in now and will host an open day soon to allow parents, neighbours and the wider school community to have a look around."
Constructed by Morgan Sindall, the bright and airy building has 11 classrooms, separate assembly and dining halls, general purpose area, library and ICT suite.
It also has a range of playground games and seating, an external teaching area and a 2nd generation pitch for seven-aside football and other team games.
The school also has a bespoke stained glass window which was designed and paid for by the pupils following a sponsored bounce event arranged by the Parent Council.
Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Eddie McAvoy, said: "This is a momentous occasion for the St Mary's Primary School community and I wish them all the very best in their new school.
"This is the 56th school to be completed by the council as part of our commitment to ensuring that all of our pupils can learn in bright and modern surroundings and provide them with the very best possible start."
