A busy junction in Bearsden is about to benefit from a brand new £600k roundabout designed to improve road safety and reduce traffic speeds.
The T junction at Baljaffray Road and Duntocher Road is often congested at peak times and it is hoped that a new 3-arm roundabout will cut delays and help minimise traffic queues.
Work is set to start on building the new roundabout and installing new lighting with the job taking around 12 weeks, meaning it should be operational in July.
Councillor John Dempsey, Vice Convener of the Council’s Development & Infrastructure Committee, is pleased that the junction is to be improved.
He said: “Historically this is a very busy section of road with motorists putting up with significant delays, especially at rush hour. When the road is less busy, speeding can be a problem. This roundabout is designed to alleviate those problems and make this junction safer and easier to navigate.
“During the construction work there will unfortunately be delays for drivers as temporary traffic lights will used. We will do everything we can to minimise disruption but I’d ask motorists to plan their route to avoid the area if possible and to bear with us over the 10 weeks as the improvements are made.”
To allow the work to be carried out safely, three way traffic signals will be in use on Duntocher Road at its junctions with Baljaffray Road. These signals will be manually controlled between 7am-7pm each day during the works.
Trial holes are to be excavated on Duntocher Road to establish the depth of Scottish Power cables, prior to the work starting.
