GHA is looking for 20 more school leavers to sign up for a career in housing.
The youngsters will be recruited later this year through GHA’s Modern Apprenticeship Programme which was launched in 2009 in partnership with Glasgow City Council.
The programme, part of Glasgow City Council’s Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative, lasts for two years with the apprentices given on-the-job experience in one of GHA’s local housing offices or at the city centre base at Granite House.
Work experience is complemented with training and leads to nationally recognised qualifications in housing.
So far 30 school leavers have successfully been put through the GHA programme since 2009. The programme is backed by Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government.
Mick McCabe, GHA’s Executive Director of Customer Services, said: “Our Modern Apprenticeship Programme is a fantastic opportunity for school leavers to get their first foot on the career ladder.
“We are looking for youngsters with a real passion for housing and a determination to do the very best they can for our tenants and factored homeowners.
“We’re delighted to be able to give youngsters their big break and look forward to working with them as they gain nationally recognised qualifications.”
One of our apprentices from last year, Jibran Ellahi, said: “It’s a great opportunity for someone coming straight from school. I’ve learned so much over the past year. It’s also a great company to work for.”
Youngsters who attended a Glasgow school, are aged 16-18 and left either at Christmas 2010 or will leave in Summer 2011 can apply for an apprenticeship at GHA by registering online at the Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative site at http://glasgow.mappit.org.uk
GHA’s Modern Apprenticeship programme won the 2010 Skills Development Scotland Award for Large Employers.
