Midlothian Agrees High School Re-development

Midlothian Council has approved - for consultation - new planning guidelines for the development of the former Dalkeith High School site.

Its Development Brief sets out the key planning and policy criteria to be considered by developers putting forward proposals for the 3½ hectare site at Newmills Road, Dalkeith. It was approved in draft at a meeting of the council’s Planning Committee on 10 May 2011.

Councillor Russell Imrie, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Midlothian Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Services, commented: “The demolition of the former Dalkeith High School buildings provides an opportunity for redevelopment of the site with uses that will contribute to meeting local needs as well as environmental improvement of the site and surroundings. There is the potential for a range of uses – including retail and housing.”

There will now be consultation with the local community on the Draft Development Brief and the results of this consultation will be considered by the Council.
