A networking event will offer businesses the chance to learn about opportunities for construction and related contracts on work preparing for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and other major public projects.
The major event will take place in Celtic Park at the end of the month and provide an opportunity to showcase the significant infrastructure investments currently being made in Glasgow and the opportunities for businesses of all sizes to benefit.
'Meet the Buyer' has the support of all the main contractors for Games-related venues, together with some other key private sector partners.
The development of the Commonwealth Games Business Portal and the many infrastructure projects in the city has provided the platform to bring the main contractors together with small and medium-sized enterprises, who may in turn want to sub-contract with them.
The Commonwealth Games Business Portal provides an opportunity for businesses to find out all the information necessary to compete for contracts related to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. All relevant goods, works and services relating to the Games will be sourced through the Portal.
Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, Councillor Archie Graham, commented: "The next few years will see a number of major projects transform many parts of Glasgow. This event provides a fantastic opportunity for businesses to meet directly with the main contractors and selected sub-contractors working on these projects. I urge all businesses and organisations interested in gaining work on these projects, which will have hundreds of millions of pounds worth of contracts, to come along to Celtic Park."
The event has been organised by Glasgow City Council with the support of Healthy Working Lives and Clyde Gateway, and will feature exhibition stands hosted by a range of companies and organisations, as well as a number of seminars. Up to 400 business representatives are expected to attend.
Meet the Buyer sessions are a tried and tested approach for large-scale construction companies to meet with potential sub contractors and suppliers.
