Preston Village Cricket Club Welcome Refurbished Facilities

Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Cllr Ruth Currie joined representatives from local sports clubs and contractors to officially open 4 new or refurbished sports pavilions across East Lothian.

In total five new and one refurbished sports pavilions (the others being at Whittingehame Drive, Haddington, and Middleshot Square, Prestonpans) were provided by East Lothian Council as part of a £2.7m project, with the aid of grant contribution from sportscotland.

The new pavilions replace dilapidated facilities at Longniddry, Prestonpans and Olivebank, a new facility at Haddington and a rebuilt facility at Lewisvale Park which had to be demolished after substantial fire damage.

Portakabin was awarded the contract for the new pavilions at a Cabinet meeting in November 2009 and these provide changing facilities including showers for home and away teams, officials changing facilities and a general purpose room.

Cllr Ruth Currie, said: "The council recognises the importance of sport and recreational opportunities for local communities and we are committed to providing modern facilities to support local teams. The new pavilions provide an invaluable addition for community and sports groups across the county. East Lothian has been the birth place of many sporting champions and these first class facilities will, I hope, generate opportunities for new champions to grow and develop."
