Network Rail engineers are undertaking a rock stabilisation project on the line between Weymss Bay and Glasgow.

The work began three Sunday's ago and will continue this weekend to repair a rock cutting damaged by December’s severe weather.

Stone on the cutting, between Bishopton and Langbank, has been loosened by the sub-zero temperatures and must be removed before it poses a risk to the safe operation of the railway.

The works are being carried out over a series of Sunday line closures to minimise disruption to journeys on this busy commuter route. ScotRail will be providing replacement bus services for passengers during the works.


Closing the line is essential for the completion of the project as engineers will require access to the tracks and overhead electrical power lines will also need to be switched off during the work.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “We recognise the inconvenience these closures may cause passengers, but the completion of these works is vital to the continued safe running of the railway.

“Every effort is being made to keep disruption to a minimum and to complete these repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We have arranged replacement buses and will have extra staff on hand at key stations.”
