Amazon is to develop a new 1,000,000 sq ft distribution facility in Dunfermline, creating approximately 700 new jobs.
Councillor Tony Martin, Strategic Chair of Fife Council’s Environment Enterprise & Transportation Committee: “This is the largest inward investment project in Fife for over a decade and it is fantastic news, not only for the people of Dunfermline and Fife but for the whole of Scotland.
“The facility will be one of the largest industrial developments ever in Scotland and for Fife to be chosen confirms its reputation as a first class business location and easy place to do business. It also demonstrates the hard work carried out by Fife Council’s Invest in Fife team who promote Fife as the location of choice for business investment creating an average of 500 new jobs per year.”
Councillor Martin added: “This project builds on Fife’s recent investment successes including the acquisition of the former Freescale Semiconductor site in Dunfermline by Shepherd Offshore Group.
“And Fife’s ability to compete for major investment at a UK level is clearly demonstrated with confirmation of the contract to build the two aircraft carriers in Rosyth, and the considerable opportunities offered to the Forth bridgehead area by the renewables sector and the new Forth crossing.
“We look forward to working with Amazon during the development of the facility to maximise local employment opportunities when it becomes operational in the Autumn. And we will continue working with Scottish Enterprise in developing the remainder of the Calais Muir site, particularly targeting the distribution and logistics sectors.”
Chair of City of Dunfermline Area Committee, Councillor Joe Rosiejak commented: “This is fantastic news for the City of Dunfermline and west Fife and I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in bringing this massive jobs boost to the area. We look forward to working with all our partners and agencies to make sure we can exploit all the employment and training opportunities for the people in Fife. It demonstrates that the City of Dunfermline is an ideal location to Live, Work, Visit and Invest.”
