Final Contract Award To Complete £4m A76 Scheme

The last contract in a series of major road maintenance schemes that have seen the A76 upgraded at New Cumnock and Mauchline has been awarded by Transport Minister Keith Brown.

The £675,000 scheme, which has been awarded to Mackenzie Construction, will see the reconstruction of 500 metres of carriageway in New Cumnock, as well as a mini roundabout, bus shelters and pedestrian crossings and improved drainage and parking.

Keith Brown said: “I am pleased to be announcing the award of this final contract for work on this section of the A76. This road is a key Ayrshire link between Kilmarnock and Dumfries, and this contract will build on previous works undertaken in the area.

“Nearly £4m is being invested in these maintenance schemes, that will ensure that the route is safe and reliable for years to come.”

The scheme is expected to start at the end of January / beginning of February (weather permitting) and last for approximately 10 weeks.

The A76 is used by around 6,000 motorists each day in New Cumnock, with this number rising to 10,000 in Mauchline.
