Community-minded Port Glasgow students attended a national conference in London with support from Lovell which is building a major housing regeneration scheme locally.
The company's £1,000 donation enabled 19 students from Port Glasgow High School and St Stephen's High School to go to the event organised by The Diana Award – a charity set up in the name of Princess Diana to recognise exceptional students who work for the benefit of their community. The Port Glasgow pupils' achievements include setting up a leadership academy, holding confidence and respect workshops for younger pupils and running anti-bullying workshops in primary schools.
“When we heard about the students’ work and the contribution they’ve made to their community we were very impressed,” said Lovell regional director Alan Taylor. “Making a difference in the neighbourhoods where we work is at the heart of our own approach and we’re delighted to have been able to help them out.”
Alan Dick, head teacher at Port Glasgow High School, commented: "We are all exceptionally proud of the achievements of the young people of the Connect group. They are making a significant impact on our community and this has been recognised nationally by The Diana Award. We are very grateful to Lovell for their generous donation to support the group..... a true community partnership.”
River Clyde Homes development manager Stuart Johnstone says: “It is great to see these students making such a positive difference to their community and we welcome the support they are receiving from Lovell.”
Lovell is building a £22 million development of 195 homes for affordable rent in Port Glasgow for River Clyde Homes. The company recently handed over the first homes to be completed, in Oronsay Avenue, near the Port Glasgow High School site.
