Kirk Natural Stone Clads Hilton

Construction News Image
Kirk Natural Stone Developments have recently installed 40mm granite rainscreen cladding at the new Hilton Hotel, St Andrews Street, Aberdeen.

The works consisted of two types of cladding:

• 40mm fine picked finish Balmoral grey granite to the front elevation of the building

• 40mm polished finish Balmoral grey granite to the fin feature above the main hotel entrance.

Managing director Martin Kirk commented: "The main façade cladding was fully supported at floor levels by load bearing stainless steel brackets, and is restrained further between floor levels by stainless steel ties back to the steel frame of the building. Corbel type support brackets were used for the lowest course, because the bottom edge of the granite is seen, prohibiting the use of dowel fixings into the edge of the stone."

Fixing of the polished granite to the curved feature fin was accomplished with a similar stainless steel fixing system and required very precise working, however the end result is excellent and a real credit to the fixing team at Kirk Natural Stone Developments.

In addition to the supply and fixing of rainscreen granite cladding, Kirk Natural Stone Developments also supplied all the 100mm dark grey granite masonry for this project.
