Oban Community Welcomes Upgraded Path

Pupils from two Oban primary schools are gearing up to join other members of the community next week to celebrate the upgrading of a popular path.

The youngsters from St Columba’s and Rockfield primaries will be walking the path today.

They will walk the 700m route between Glengallan Road and Glenshellach Road, where a plaque acknowledging the project’s funders will be unveiled.

The £40,000 project – which took four weeks to complete - involved resurfacing, improving drainage, removing a narrow bridge and replacing it with a culvert and removing steps and replacing them with a ramp.

Funding was provided by Argyll and Bute Council, Sustrans and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Chair of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles area committee, Councillor Duncan MacIntyre, said: “This is a well-used route, particularly to the primary campus, and the upgrade will make it a much easier journey for those who regularly use it.

“The route is now safer, smoother and dryer and is suitable not just for cycles but also buggies and wheelchairs. I am delighted it has been completed, and would encourage people to go and see for themselves the difference the improvements have made.”
