St. Enoch Centre Achieves Carbon Trust Standard

St. Enoch Centre has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard after taking action on climate change and reducing its carbon emissions by more than 2% over the past three years.

The Carbon Trust Standard recognises organisations for real carbon reduction. Based on a rigorous, independent assessment, it certifies that organisations have measured, managed and reduced their carbon emissions across their own operations, and are committed to reducing them year on year.

St. Enoch Centre estimates that it has reduced its carbon footprint by over 500 tons since 2007, which is equivalent to a 6% saving in energy and costs. As a result, the Centre’s electricity provider has offered St. Enoch a green tariff electricity contract based on its dedication to the environment.

St. Enoch Centre’s commitment to carbon reduction also includes the training of ‘Best Green Ambassadors’ to help champion energy conservation within the Centre.

Earlier this year the Centre received a prestigious award for its commitment to the environment when its innovative green action plan dealing with issues such as waste, water and energy management won a Green Heroes 2010 Wall Shield.

Susan Nicol, General Manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: “This is a great achievement for the Centre and underlines our commitment to both the community and the environment.

“We have had a fantastic year and our £150M transformation has proven very popular with shoppers however it is very important to balance the Centre’s growth with reducing its carbon footprint.

“We are delighted to have been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard and will continue to build upon the great work which has been done by boosting our green credentials and focusing on reducing our carbon footprint even further in the future.”

Harry Morrison, General Manager of the Carbon Trust Standard said: “Being certified with the Carbon Trust Standard is proof that an organisation has taken genuine action to reduce its impact on climate change.”
