Plans Submitted For New Athletics Facility

Plans have been submitted by East Lothian Council for a new athletics track at Meadowmill, Tranent.

The full plans detail a proposed new 6 lane, synthetic surface athletics track with an 8 lane straight section, a grass sports pitch for field events including javelin, hammer and discus throwing, jumping track and pits for triple and long jump events, a high jump arena and floodlighting for year round use.


Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Cllr Ruth Currie, said: "I welcome this planning application which is the culmination of extensive discussions and the exchange of ideas with local and national athletics organisations.

"We are fortunate in East Lothian to have an excellent array of sports facilities including swimming pools, indoor multi-purpose halls, all weather pitches and gyms. The provision of this new facility, at Meadowmill Sports Centre, will bring opportunities for athletics training, competition and events within the county.

"This centre will also benefit other sports for cross training purposes. I am grateful to the members of the East Lothian Athletics development group whose views and requirements have helped to shape this track provision."
