Pothole Performance Picks Up

New ways of tackling potholes in Dundee have resulted in more than twice as many repairs being made last year compared with the previous 12 months.

Councillors were told on Monday that 12,954 potholes were repaired in 2009/10, 6678 more than in 2008/09.

Will Dawson, convener of the city development committee said: "A wide-ranging review of how these repairs are made including close scrutiny of duplication of processes, investigating levels of service and how these can be improved, along with quality and speed of repair, have resulted in more than twice the number of potholes being tackled.


"New permanent repair processes like the rhino system, which was used 23% more last year than in 2008/09, have helped us keep on top of an increasing number of potholes caused by the bad weather."

The city development committee will be told that most of the potholes were fixed last year within 28 days of first being discovered or reported, with the majority (6719) repaired within three days.

The rhino process was used to repair 2482, an increase of 467 on the previous year.
