A leading builder, Barr Construction, is well on the way to completing three new Scottish supermarkets for Tesco.

The triple deal, part of a series of contracts, is worth more than £13 million.

All three supermarkets are expected to be completed in November.

The new stores are in Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire; Tain, Ross-shire; and Banchory, Kincardineshire with Barr constructing a new 35,730 sq ft eco-friendly timber-clad building in Lesmahagow.


It will incorporate a range of green technologies including wind catchers on the roof and a combined heat and power unit, both of which will help reduce the store's carbon footprint.

It is also putting up a new 45,000 sq ft eco-superstore in Banchory. The building will incorporate sun pipes and equipment that will allow natural light into the building.

The third contract is for a new 28,000 sq ft store in Tain.
