Improvement work has commenced at Greenock Crematorium with new, heavy duty safety flooring installed and essential maintenance work carried out on the cremators.

Convener of Safe, Sustainable Communities, Councillor Robert Moran said: "We have spoken to local funeral directors about the works and I would also like to apologise for any inconvenience this short closure may cause.


"We will of course try to keep any disruption to a minimum while these crucial improvements are made."

Work has already been carried out at the Crematorium to improve disabled access with a ramp installed to the office and waiting room and another at the front of the building allowing entry to the Chapel and Book of Remembrance Room.

In February, the office block was completely rewired, new lights were fitted in the main chapel, a new fire alarm with electrical switchboard was installed and a full rewire of all electrical sockets and switches was carried out.
