New Dunbeth Nursery Taking Shape

North Lanarkshire Council leader Jim McCabe was recently invited by contractors Morgan Sindall to the site of the new Dunbeth nursery centre in Coatbridge to see how work is progressing.

The nursery's facilities will include a playroom for children aged 3-5 years with a kitchen, walk-in store and direct access to an outdoor play area.

There will be a separate playroom for children aged 2–3 years and a baby room with kitchenette and changing room.

The centre will also boast a parents' room, a multipurpose meeting room, staff room, head teacher's office, administration office, visiting services room, laundry room, cloakroom/reception area and a buggy store.

It will be built with a fully landscaped secure outdoor play area for the children, and will comply with all disability legislation and requirements.

Councillor McCabe said: "This is a much needed asset which will become highly valued by the local community. I am impressed at how well this project is developing and look forward to seeing it when it's completed."

Morgan Sindall area director Colin Timmons said: "The new Dunbeth Nursery will be a fantastic facility for local people and we hope everyone will enjoy watching it take shape over the coming months."

When ready, the single story building, off Coats Street, will accommodate up to 61 FTE (full time equivalent) early years places. There will be 40 FTE places for children aged 3-5 years, 15 FTE for ages 2-3 and 6 FTE for children aged up to 2 years.

Work on site started in April 2010 with the new building due for completion late December 2010.
