It has been announced that the new Health and Safety ’10 – Scotland event at the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh on 15-16th September 2010 will host the HSM Demonstration Zone.
The HSM Demonstration Zone is a dedicated area that will run five live presentations daily and provide a comprehensive programme of practical safety advice relevant to any industry.
Highlights include a presentation from the Health and Safety Executive’s Dr. Bob Rajan, OBE in conjunction with the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) on the topic of Clean Air? Take Care? - which follows the successful launch of the BSIF’s campaign of the same name. During this Dr. Rajan aims is to raise awareness of occupational respiratory disease and to help reduce the 12,000 deaths in the UK each year from prior exposure to occupational respiratory hazards.
Laidler Associates, part of the Laidler Group, one of the UK’s leading machinery safety and compliance consultants, will give a presentation on Practical Machinery Safety, Including Guarding Issues and will cover the New Machinery Directive. Laidler is able to bring to life the problems that are present and demonstrate how to provide safe solutions in this area.
In addition, the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives will be giving a presentation called Health risks at work – do you know yours? This will consist of guidance on common workplace health risks and a short DVD.
Leading respiratory and hearing protection company Moldex will present on Revisions to the respiratory standard, EN 149. This seminar covers the amendments to EN149, how these changes will affect users and suppliers of RPE and what this means for products already in the marketplace.
This standard was revised in July 2009 and as such now applies to all filtering face masks used in Europe. The key change in this amended standard is that more stringent and demanding tests are undertaken to check the filter efficiency of masks. Masks for one shift only, are now marked NR (non-reusable). If they pass an additional 24hr loading test and offer a sealing area that can be cleaned and disinfected, then the masks are reusable and marked with R (reusable).
MASCOT International, the safety footwear manufacturer will also be presenting in the Demo zone. The company’s Safety Footwear expert Karl Peter Kurth will demonstrate innovations in footwear design that help to protect against slips, trips and falls and other injuries in the work place.
