South Ayrshire residents will have the opportunity to have their say on the design of the first new council houses in more than 30 years when a consultation exercise gets underway on Friday 16 July.
As part of its commitment to increasing the number of local affordable homes for rent, South Ayrshire Council – which is funding the project in partnership with the Scottish government – will shortly get to work on building 42 two, three and four bedroom council houses in the Thornyflat area of Ayr.
The project architects have now developed initial design proposals for the houses and the council is encouraging local residents to take a look at the proposals and provide their feedback on what they see.
The plans for the new homes will be on display from Friday 16 July until Friday 30 July at:
John Pollock Centre, Mainholm Road, Ayr; Ayr Housing Office, River Terrace, Ayr and; Carnegie Library, Main Street, Ayr.
They will also be available between 1pm and 2pm, Monday to Friday between Friday 16 and Thursday 29 July at St Quivox Parish Church in Dalmilling.
To take part in the consultation, all you have to do is complete a comments card at one of the above locations or you can submit your views online at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/consultations Councillor Douglas Campbell, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: "We are delighted to be starting work on the first new council houses in South Ayrshire in more than three decades and we genuinely want the input of our local communities to make sure we get the designs right.
"This is your opportunity to make sure we achieve this and I would encourage all interested parties to take the time to view the plans either at one of the selected locations or via our website.
"The consultation on the initial designs for the new council houses will last from Friday 16 until Friday 30 July, so make sure you don't miss the chance to have your say."
