Kingennie Fields Development Named Luxury House Of The Year

Construction News Image
A contemporary home, designed by Archial Architects for Forbes of Kingennie, has been named luxury house of the year at the Scottish Home Awards.

Combining New England-influenced architecture with traditional Scottish materials, ‘house type one’ at the rural Kingennie Fields development on the outskirts of Broughty Ferry near Dundee, offers a generously proportioned family home providing flexible and stylish accommodation.

Derek Reid, director at Archial Architects, said: “I’m delighted that the design of house type one has received this recognition as I believe strongly that this development provides a fine example of the best kind of contemporary luxury home that can be achieved in a rural Scottish setting when an enlightened developer and architect work closely to create a quality product.”

House type one at Kingennie Fields offers a spacious, vaulted reception hall, from where the formal dining room’s unique glazed wall allows natural daylight to flood through the home. The hub of the home, though, is the open plan kitchen/family room which provides direct access onto the garden by means of a decked terrace running along the full length of the home.

Upstairs there are four main double bedrooms, including master suite with dressing room, en suite bathroom and balcony. These combine with a fifth bedroom in the self-contained guest apartment located above the integral triple garage to provide ample and flexible sleeping accommodation.

With a generously proportioned drawing room and separate entertainment room downstairs, which could be used as a sixth bedroom, house type one offers all the space and flexibility any family could need.

Amongst the environmentally friendly features which have helped Kingennie Fields to meet BRE Eco Homes Very Good Standards are: energy-efficient underfloor and central heating linked to innovative geo-thermal heat pumps; super-insulated timber frame construction; extensive use of traditional, local materials and labour; generous gardens complete with beech hedges and other planting species which support local bio-diversity.
