Improved Parking And Travel For Lenzie

Additional parking facilities, less traffic congestion and a village-type centre – all are set to transform the main thoroughfare in Lenzie.

At the Development & Infrastructure Committee recently councillors heard detailed plans for the £340,000 improvement scheme which is set to go ahead, subject to public consultation.

If accepted, the scheme – which is split into two phases – will mean narrowing the B757 and widening the shopping parade at the Station.

Convener Billy Hendry told the Committee: “The traffic improvement scheme will create a main road through Lenzie and promote a more village type atmosphere while Phase 2 of the scheme will give it a defined Village Centre.”

Phase 1 involves narrowing the B757, lining the road with antiskid paint and constructing gateway features. Phase 2 is the widening of the shopping parade. Work is also progressing on 54 additional parking spaces at Lenzie Station by extending the existing north car park towards Lenzie Moss. It could also mean changing the smaller north car park into a short stay car park for shoppers. Further parking could be achieved behind the bank and off Millersneuk Road. This second phase is reliant on both future capital and match funding.

There would also be a morning two hour restriction for on-street parking around the station to cars remaining there all day. Permits would be available for residents. It’s predicted the work would take around two years to complete. Consultation events will be announced shortly.
