Final Resurfacing Work Begins In Barrhead

The final phase of road surfacing begins this week at Cross Arthurlie Street in Barrhead.

The road and street is being redeveloped as part of an £800,000 renovation by East Renfrewshire Council with support from a Scottish Government Town Centre fund.

The contractor’s work on the footpath will continue during this time. The footpath works will be fully completed when the construction work is finished on the new flats at George Street/Henry Street. This is expected to be in mid to late July.

A council spokesman, said: “This is the final phase of road resurfacing at Cross Arthurlie Street and our contractor will also be continuing their work on the footpath. This £800,000 worth of work to redevelop the street was clearly needed. But we would like to thank drivers, residents and local businesses for their patience during this and previous closures.

"We all want a thriving, busy town centre in Barrhead and that’s what we’re trying to help build with this work.”

There may be a further closure in late July to complete any final work on the road before it finally ready.

Council bosses have been working behind the scenes to develop a street party in Cross Arthurlie as a thank you to the local businesses and residents and to encourage more shoppers to come along and make use of the newly renovated shopping street.
