Work is due to start on May 17 to upgrade the traffic signal-controlled junction at Denny Cross.
The aim is to improve road safety for pedestrians and motorists and to reduce congestion.
The upgrade works, costing £166,000, will be carried out by McGivney Construction Ltd, on behalf of Falkirk Council, and are expected to last for eight weeks.
The junction will also be resurfaced including the approaches from Broad Street, Duke Street, Glasgow Road and Stirling Street.
The existing layout is constrained by the surrounding buildings which prevent alterations to the junction and the approaches. However, the new traffic signals will offer a modern, intelligent method of traffic control.
Temporary traffic signals will be used during construction which will cause unavoidable delays and disruption to the travelling public over this period.
Drivers are asked to be patient and allow more time for their journeys or consider alternative routes.
The council said the new traffic signals will provide "safer and more responsive" crossing facilities for pedestrians and will be more responsive to traffic flows and queues throughout the day but the technology will require a number of days to gather live traffic data in terms of traffic flows and patterns at peak times, weekends etc.
This means that it will take some time before the signal phasings have been optimised. During this period there may continue to be some delays and disruption to traffic and the Council would ask for drivers' co-operation and understanding during this "bedding in" period.
