Carillion and East Dunbartonshire Council are to work together constructing HMP Low Moss.
The main contractor is keen for East Dunbartonshire businesses to provide goods and services to the new development and several local companies have already secured contracts at Low Moss. One example is Stent Foundations Ltd, from Balmore Road in Torrance.
Vice Convener of the Council’s Development and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor John Dempsey said: “I am delighted that there are real opportunities for our local businesses and local residents as a result of this significant development at Low Moss. This is an excellent example of the Council and developers working together for the wider benefit of the area.”
Fergus Shaw, Project Manager for Carillion said: “Local firm Stent Foundations Ltd from Torrance are contracted to supply and install the precast driven piles for the development, and they in turn contracted local haulage contractor John Bell Hiab Hire of Lennoxtown to deliver the piles. In addition, the piling rig driver is also local and hails from Bishopbriggs."
Councillor Dempsey added: “In addition to the opportunities for businesses, the Council’s Skills and Learning team is also working with Carillion to maximise job opportunities for local people as and when these arise.”
East Dunbartonshire Council will host an ‘Open for Business’ event in May where businesses can find out information about how to join Carillion’s supplier list for Low Moss, how to register with the Council’s procurement service and how to become involved with the Commonwealth Games tendering process. Details of new support to businesses through the Council and Business Gateway will also be made available at this event.
