Youngsters at St Vincent’s Primary school, Autism Unit and Thornlaw nursery performed a variety of songs and dance for the official opening of their £7.5 million campus.
Archbishop Mario Conti, Councillor Paul Rooney and guests joined staff and pupils of the school on Monday, 26th April for the morning festivities.
The fabulous new building in Carnwadric, opened its doors in June 2009 and is the result of the merger of St Louise and St Vincent’s primary schools, St Vincent’s Autism Unit and Thornlaw nursery school.
Councillor Paul Rooney, executive member for education, said: “The new school buildings are fantastic and the children are flourishing in their new surroundings. The pupils are so proud and enjoy showcasing their talents at the official openings.
“Glasgow has invested over £263 million in pre 12 establishments over the last few years and the children of Glasgow are now reaping the benefits of these modern, state-of-the-art learning facilities. They are having a major impact on the communities they serve.
“I wish the staff, pupils and the local community, many happy years in this new campus building.”
St Vincent’s Primary has a current school roll of 284 (with a capacity of 330) and includes 10 classrooms, a general-purpose room, a library, media suite, gymnasium and an all weather sports pitch.
St Vincent’s Autism unit has a current roll of 24 and has four classrooms and a general purpose room. The nursery has a capacity of 75.
The school facilities are available for community use out with school hours and have been used extensively by locals since the school opened.
