During round table discussions called by Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead all attendees agreed to forge a collaborative approach to reaching the target of creating an additional 650,000 hectares of woodland over the next 40 to 65 years.
Mr Lochhead said: "By working together we can ensure that we increase Scotland's woodland cover in a way which benefits all sectors.

"This is not an issue of farming v. forestry but an opportunity for us all to work together to ensure that all sectors flourish in a way which complement and enhance our environment and well being.
"Today, I have been heartened by the enthusiasm of all sectors to work together to balance the competing demands for land, ensure that the right trees are planted in the right locations for the mutual benefit of all."
NFU Scotland President, Jim McLaren said: "The right trees in the right places can bring a host of benefits not least in terms of meeting ambitious targets in relation to tackling climate change. More importantly from an individual farmer's perspective, woodlands can yield a range of management benefits and diversified income streams including timber production, livestock shelter, renewable energy and carbon offsetting."
