Archial Sustainable Futures Appoints Architect

Research, development and advice consultancy Archial Sustainable Futures has appointed Peter Smith, an architect in Archial's Glasgow design studio.

He is on a nine month secondment to broaden and deepen the sustainable design capabilities of Archial Architects and Alsop Sparch.

Since joining Archial's Glasgow design studio in 2008, Mr Smith has built up a wide range of experience as an architect from residential and commercial projects to healthcare and master-planning.

Mr Smith said: "I'm looking forward to becoming involved in the delivery of various Sustainable Futures consultancy projects, including the Sustainable Tenement Living Project for the Scottish Government and the development of Sustainability Optimisation Software for a UK Government funded R&D consortium led by Integrated Environmental Solutions Limited (IES)."

Earlier in this career Mr Smith moved to Germany to pursue his interest in sustainable timber construction where he trained to become a fully qualified joiner/ carpenter before returning to Glasgow to continue his architectural career. He has maintained his interest in timber construction and has developed close working relationships with contacts in the industry throughout Germany, Austria, Ireland and the UK.

Mr Smith's interest in sustainable communities has also led to him to produce a series of novel light art installations in Glasgow.

He co-founded Multicolours, a not-for-profit community art organisation which works around the demolition phase of former high-rise residential buildings.
