STATS Sign Up To Engineering Skills Charter

Specialist engineering company, STATS Group, is supporting the engineers of the future by signing up to an industry-wide Skills and Training Charter.

The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) charter is aimed at developing the pool of talent in the sector by improving training and supporting trainees and apprentices.

The charter requires signatory companies to put the skills shortage at the top of their agenda by developing an extensive pool of skilled operatives and providing opportunities to school leavers and adults to learn engineering and construction skills.

The ECITB will monitor and evaluate companies involved in apprenticeship training and additional skills training for existing staff.

STATS currently employ two apprentices while another six have completed their apprenticeships and taken up permanent roles. Another three staff have been supported by the company in design and workshop traineeships, four are working towards professional qualifications in accountancy, oil and gas engineering and quality management and two are progressing towards IMechE Charterships.

Aberdeen-based STATS design, manufacture and install a range of patented technologies for piping and pipelines in the oil and gas industry. The company’s products reduce system or plant downtime and enhance safety and environmental performance.

STATS director, Lorraine Porter, said: "A core principal of our business is to provide the best training possible for our staff, from the school leaver starting an apprenticeship, to the graduate engineer looking to gain professional accreditation.

"Our success is built on the quality and competency of our staff and we fully endorse the ECITB Charter and will play our part in promoting skills training and best practice to meet the challenges the engineering industry is facing."

David Edwards, chief executive of ECITB, said: "STATS' commitment to the Skills and Training Charter is a very welcome and important step in securing and sustaining the skills, productivity and performance of the Engineering Construction Industry."
