Litter clearing and planting work will be carried out on a piece of derelict land next week to create a new miniature woodland.
Aberdeen City Council staff will be teaming up with Aberdeen Greenspace and volunteers to clear the neglected area behind Ruthrieston Crescent of rubbish, including concrete blocks and bricks which have been dumped there.
Once the clean-up has been completed, work will begin on planting native trees and shrubs, including gean (wild cherry), bird cherry, hawthorn, hazel, blackthorn and ash.
The work is part of Aberdeen Greenspace and the council's contribution to the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom and It's Your Neighbourhood campaigns.
The Ruthrieston Crescent work is also part of a broader project to encourage more wildlife onto the old Deeside railway line. Aberdeen Greenspace volunteers will also be clearing rubbish and planting on the Pitfodels section of the line.
The aim is to encourage wildlife into the sites and create biodiversity areas along the Deeside Line, which acts as a wildlife corridor into the city. In all, 649 shrubs and trees will be planted.
Aberdeen Greenspace is a small environmental charity, established in 1998, based in Aberdeen and funded mainly through the Landfill Community Fund. It works with organisations, local communities and individuals to secure environmental improvements to green spaces in Aberdeen through improved access, planting native trees and providing interpretive material on the natural environment."
