Nicola Sturgeon MSP and Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing formally opened the brand new Allander GP Surgery this week at its’ official opening ceremony in Glasgow. Glasgow based contractors David H Allan Joiners & Building Contractors built and fitted out the impressive £800K medical premises in Glasgow to provide larger and much improved accommodation for staff and patients.
Dr Margaret Craig said: "We would like to thank our contractors David H Allan who have produced a lovely building. We are all very pleased with so much of it. It is attractive and light and also practical, with quiet rooms and good insulation. An excellent and calm working environment."
Allander Surgery has been in existence in Glasgow for over 100 years operating from an old surgery in Saracen Street, which was spread over a second and first floor flat, causing access problems for wheelchair users. This week at the opening of the new centre staff and patients celebrated their first ever move to a surgery built all on one level, which offers easier patient access, excellent staff working space, improved patient facilities and a completely different and better environment for coping with illness and the promotion of health & wealth being.
Secretary for Health Nicola Sturgeon said: "The new premises are fantastic. They are bright, spacious, airy, modern and everything you wish for in a GP Premises. Congratulations to everyone who made this possible. I know only too well just how much time, effort commitment, blood sweat and tears goes into making a project like this possible and turning it from an idea, a vision, an aspiration into a living breathing working GP practice. It’s no mean feat.
"There were lots of people involved. Those who work here, the Architects, the Builders, the Designers, the Health Board and everyone who played a part. Thank you very much and congratulations for pulling off such a fantastic achievement."
George Allan, Managing Director of David H Allan Joiners & Building Contractors said: "We are delighted to have built this surgery for our client who needed much bigger premises from which to operate. The new medical centre provides patients with a bright and modern GP surgery. The Allander Surgery staff now have a working space that is fit for purpose."
