Sainsbury's is 'trying something new' in Aberdeen having opened its second Local store in the city’s St Nicholas Centre.
The first Local store was opened just a week before.
Sainsbury's Local stores are the smallest in the firm's estate and offer convenience products and services, tailored to ensure they complement the area.
The Bon Accord & St Nicholas Centres are owned by Land Securities and British Land. On behalf of the partnership, Katherine Armstead of Land Securities, said: "This new addition to the retail offering at St Nicholas is testament to our ambitions to diversify our offering to shoppers. The Sainsbury’s brand is synonymous with quality and will be well positioned within our current retailers at the centres in Aberdeen."
Sainsbury’s just celebrated its 140th year, opening its first store in Drury Lane, London in 1869. The company now has more than 500 supermarkets and 300 convenience stores across the UK employing approximately 150,000 people. Sainsbury's also boasts a banking division operating under the group banner.
Jim Bishop, Sainsbury’s Acquisitions Manager for Scotland, said: "Our Sainsbury’s Local store in Aberdeen will further develop our profile in the city, building upon the success of the Union Street, and Berryden Road sites. We identified a market for a store in the St Nicholas Centre and I’m confident that it will be embraced by the shoppers there. Our Local stores offer the convenience of having a wide selection of our products available in city centre locations."
FG Burnett, Eric Young & Co and Cushman & Wakefield acted on behalf of the partnership, whilst Savills represented Sainsbury's.
