Angus Council has set out a programme of property maintenance and improvements that will inject over half a million pounds into the economy.

Commenting on the planned work the council’s Corporate Services spokesperson councillor Mark Salmond said: "This programme of general maintenance is good housekeeping by the council.

"The work, which includes boiler replacements, fire alarm renewals, external paintwork and some general repairs, will be carried out by the council’s standing list of contractors. The estimated £539k cost of this first phase of the planned work will therefore provide a welcome economic boost to many local contractors."


Within the £539,500 programme of work approved by the Corporate Services Committee (Thursday 11 March 2010) £110k will be spent on replacement windows at Southesk Primary School, Montrose and Newbigging Primary School; £41,500 has been allocated for ongoing maintenance at Kirriemuir Town Hall; £66k of boiler replacements and heating upgrades will be done; and external paint and joinery works at 31 council sites across the county is expected to cost £110,000.

Proposals for a further round of general maintenance work, including over a quarter of a million pounds investment in the ongoing buildings accessibility programme, will be brought forward to the Corporate Services Committee later this year.
