Road Upgrade 'May Disturb' Football Fans

Transport Scotland is urging football fans and other motorists to leave extra time for their journeys as work on the M80 Stepps to Haggs upgrade reaches a milestone this weekend.

Four huge beams are being lifted into place to form the Mollinsburn Overbridge and this work requires careful traffic management.

The £320 million M80 Stepps to Haggs Completion project will complete a vital part of the west of Scotland's motorway network bringing real benefits of improved journey time reliability.

The work to lift the beams takes place begins Saturday daytime (8am) and will continue until Sunday morning.

Traffic management is essential for the safety of road workers and road users alike and there will be a northbound lane closure on the A80 at Mollinsburn on Saturday 20 February between 8am and 8pm.

This will be followed by contraflow on the southbound carriageway until 8am on Sunday 21 February. Temporary traffic signals will be in place at the junction with the M73.

Hugh O'Connor, HMG General Manager: "While we have done what we can to minimise disruption, drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance. This is particularly important for fans travelling to and from the St Johnstone v Rangers match in Perth on Saturday."

Drivers should plan their journeys in advance using the Traffic Scotland website and listening to traffic updates on the radio.
