A £3.2m refurbishment is planned for Brunton Hall, Musselburgh.
Complete illustrations providing details of the proposed work, due to start later this year, have been put on public display within the building.
The work includes extensive redevelopment of the Main Hall, improved access into, and within, the building, modern backstage facilities and new external signage.
Cllr. Roger Knox, Chair of the Brunton Theatre Trust, said: "The plans are on display for local people to give their views on this extensive refurbishment to update the Brunton Hall.
"The building opened in the mid 1970's and is used by individuals and community groups for a range of activities including public meetings, local festivals, local dance schools, training events and private parties.
"The main hall is one of the largest halls in East Lothian and the refurbishment will not just provide an enhanced environment for the continuation of these established uses but will also have the capacity to host large scale musical and theatre performances."
Within the Main Hall it is proposed to install a new sprung hardwood dance floor, new heating, and ventilation systems and state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems which will enhance both professional performances and private parties.
Adjacent to the Main Hall the function kitchen will be enlarged and a new disabled toilet will be installed.
Improved backstage facilities proposed include a larger goods lift for performance equipment, tables, chairs etc, a new gallery linked through to the existing wardrobe area and two large dressing rooms a stage management office, toilets and showers.
