Drivers Jonas (DJ) has successfully secured the planning permission for phase 1 of a new £36m fire and rescue training centre at Clydesmill Industrial Estate in Cambuslang for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service.
The permission follows on from the outline planning permission won by DJ in October 2008.
Phase 1 of the development comprises an academic building, practical facilities building, practical training buildings and revised access and ancillary works.
Ensuring compliance with 'Scottish Planning Policy 6, Renewable Technology', the development includes the provision of a biomass boiler and a 15kw, 15m-high wind turbine.
Steven Cameron, Associate in DJ's Planning and Development team, said: "The Design team has worked closely to ensure that the rigorous technical requirements laid down by the planning authority at the outline planning stage have been met with this proposal.
"Whilst the principal development will be delivered under this permission, other aspects of the training centre will feature as future reserved matters applications.
"Drivers Jonas submitted a separate part reserved matters planning application to South Lanarkshire Council in October 2009 for a new Community Fire Station at Clydesmill and a decision is anticipated this month."
Tony Hughes of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service, commented: "Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service are pleased that planning permission is now at this stage and look forward to our continuing partnership with Drivers Jonas."
The design team are architects, Cooper Cromar; project management & QS, Gardiner Theobald; structural and civil engineers, URS Corporation Ltd; and M & E services engineers, Hulley and Kirkwood Ltd.
