It's All Kicking Off In Broomhill

Construction News Image
Contractors have begun work on a new state-of-the-art 3G all-weather pitch in Broomhill.

The artificial surface allows 28 games a week to be played, compared to just three on grass.

Convener of Regeneration Councillor Jim Clocherty said: "The Leisure Strategy is starting to kick off in Inverclyde and I am delighted people can really start to see things happening.

"Work is already underway on another 3G pitch at George Road in Gourock and work on a new pavilion here in Broomhill is also due to start on site in March next year. This is a much-needed boost for the Broomhill area."

In its 2009/11 Budget, Inverclyde Council set out ambitious plans to spend £23 million on new and refurbished leisure facilities in communities across the area.

They include £2.8 million for a new community stadium facility at Parklea in Port Glasgow, and a further £2 million will see the Pavilion at Parklea replaced with new changing accommodation.

A design team has been appointed to work on a new £10 million Leisure Centre/Library at Rankin Park and planning permission has been granted to refurbish the stand at Ravenscraig Stadium as part of a £1.8 million upgrade.

Councillor Clocherty added: "I think we are fortunate in that despite the economic downturn we have already set aside the funding to fulfil our promises and deliver first class facilities for the people of Inverclyde.

"The council is determined to do all it can to reverse a trend of poor health and social exclusion by giving people the opportunity and resources to take part and benefit from sport at all levels."
