An Angus resident has had to stump up £1000 after failing to comply with a planning enforcement order.

The fine was imposed by the court on the owner of the stables at Kirkton of Glenisla after repeated requests by Angus Council, to have an unauthorised residential caravan removed from the premises, were ignored.

Welcoming the court's decision, the council's Development Standards Convener David Lumgair said it sent a clear message that planning regulations had to be complied with.


"This case has been on the go for a couple of years and it is frustrating that it took court action to get the owner to comply with the regulations," said councillor Lumgair. "The £1000 fine could have been avoided and the council could have saved valuable time and money if the regulations had just been complied with in the first place."

Councillor Lumgair said he had welcomed the decision of the Angus fiscal's office to refer the matter to court. "I am pleased that the procurator fiscal agrees that these matters should go to court. This case sends a clear message that the council and the courts will pursue abuses of the planning system."
